Entertainment – Wizkid’s ‘Essence’ Becomes First African Song To Win iHeartRadio Titanium Award

Multi-award-winning Nigerian artsites Ayodeji Balogun popularly known as Wizkid and Temilade Openiyi better known as Tems, have been honoured as the first African recipients of the iHeartRadio Titanium Award. The award is coming barely three days after the duo’s nominations at this year’s BET Awards. The iHeartRadio Titanium Award is given to artistes with records that have amassed over a billion spins across all of its stations in the United States. Wikzid’s Essence, off of his 4th studio album, Made In Lagos, featuring Tems became the first African song to win this award. Entertainment – SMALL BODY – BIG ENGINE!! Rema Beats Wizkid, Breaks Masekela’s Billboard Record

Nigerian sensational afrobeats star Divine Ikubor, aka Rema, is edging closer to equaling late South African music legend Hugh Masekela’s record for the highest-charting African song on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. The remix version of his hit song ‘Calm Down,’ which featured American singer Selena Gomez, hit a new peak at Number 4 on this week’s Hot 100 chart, which is a Nigerian record. With this feat, Rema now has the second-highest charting song on Hot 100 by an African artist in history. Naijaloaded recalls that Rema earlier surpassed Wizkid’s record as the highest charting Nigerian lead artist in Billboard Hot 100 history after ‘Calm Down’ surpassed ‘Essence’ which peaked at number 9 last year. ‘Calm Down’ is projected to hit a new peak next week with a aim of breaking Hugh Masekela long standing record. Wizkid and Tems have reached number one on the Hot 100 chart, but as guests and not lead acts.

The starboy, Wizkid has been named as one of the artists that would be featured alongside Metro Boomin on the Marvel animation, Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse movie. The Grammy award-winning singer and performer was named alongside ASAP Rocky, Lil Uzi Vert, Offset, Swae Lee and many more as one of the features on the soundtrack project. The artists on the soundtrack were confirmed by Metro Boomin himself on his social media platform, where he also confirmed that the project would be released on the 2nd of June 2023 across all streaming platforms.
