Entertainment – Wizkid’s ‘Essence’ Becomes First African Song To Win iHeartRadio Titanium Award

Multi-award-winning Nigerian artsites Ayodeji Balogun popularly known as Wizkid and Temilade Openiyi better known as Tems, have been honoured as the first African recipients of the iHeartRadio Titanium Award. The award is coming barely three days after the duo’s nominations at this year’s BET Awards. The iHeartRadio Titanium Award is given to artistes with records that have amassed over a billion spins across all of its stations in the United States. Wikzid’s Essence, off of his 4th studio album, Made In Lagos, featuring Tems became the first African song to win this award. Nigerian musicians, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Tems, Ckay, and Fireboy DML have all been nominated in the Afrobeats Artist Of The Year category at the 11th edition of the iHeartRadio Music Awards 2023. Afrobeats has been on a steady climb to more and more global acclaim with songs topping international music charts. So the nomination of these Nigerian superstars comes as no surprise. In the lineup of nominees announced by iHeart Media and Fox Entertainment for the 2023 iHeartRadio Music awards, Tems received nominations in four other categories; Best R&B artist, R&B song of the year, Hip-Hop song of the year, and Best Collaboration. Rema was also nominated for Best Music Video (A Socially Voted Category) for the visuals of his remix of “Calm Down” with Selena Gomez. American Rapper Drops New Track “Wait For U” Featuring Drake & Tems
Rapper, Future is out with a new number, Wait For U featuring Canadian rapper, Drake, and Nigeria’s Afropop diva, Tems. The new track is off his ninth studio album tagged, I Never Liked You, which houses 16 tracks and it features Kanye West, Drake, Young Thug, Gunna, Kodak Black, Est Gee, Tems. I Never Liked You is Future’s first full-length album since joining forces with Lil Uzi Vert for their collaboration project, Pluto x Baby Pluto, in November 2020, over two years after his last solo release, 2020’s High Off Life. “Anytime we work in the studio, the level, the energy—we’re trying to perfect this shit but still stay raw, still stay gritty, and still be moving at the speed of the universe,” Future said of collaborating with Drake in a recent interview with GQ.
