About Me:
I’m Roy Adejo, better known as Eightyeightwonder, an artist with a passion for storytelling through music. For over a decade, I’ve been on a mission to connect with audiences worldwide, using my unique sound to share my experiences and emotions. My journey in the music industry has shaped me into a versatile and well-seasoned artist, and I’m here to leave my mark.
Musical Journey:
Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My earliest exposure came from my dad, who had a deep love for music and a collection of records that always filled our home with sound. My mom also influenced me—every Sunday, as we prepared for church, she played her favorite gospel tunes, especially Chris Morgan. A turning point came when my uncle introduced me to Celine Dion’s music during a family visit to Jos, sparking a realization of how special music truly is to me. These early influences led me to explore various genres and sounds, helping me create a unique and relatable musical vocabulary that reflects my life and surroundings.
Signature Style:
My style is all about fusion—combining different genres and sounds to create music that resonates with listeners on a deep level. My songs are reflective and relatable, drawing inspiration from the world around me. I mix Afrobeat with pop, R&B, and other genres to craft what my mentor, Burna Boy, calls “Afro-Fusion.” It’s about staying versatile, breaking boundaries, and delivering infectious melodies and meaningful lyrics that touch the heart.
Notable Achievements:
Every phase of my journey has been about constant growth. I believe there’s no end to becoming better, and Afrobeat’s rise to global recognition is proof that we’re making history. I am a part of this movement, and while my time is coming, in many ways, my time is now! The culture is evolving, and I’m here to push it forward.
Projects and Future Plans:
So far, I’ve released several records, starting with “2:00am,” which was my first official release. I followed it up with an EP featuring five songs, including an acoustic version of “2:00am.” My next releases, “Kpa (Money)” and “Selena,” further expanded my sound and reach. I’ve also been featured on tracks by artists like Maczyfire, Boyhanzy, and Lord UI. Looking forward, I’m planning to drop my next project, titled Amazing, later this month.
Influences and Inspirations:
I draw inspiration from several artists who’ve shaped my understanding of music and success. Burna Boy taught me the importance of excellence and hard work, Wizkid showed me the value of composure and family, while Davido’s philanthropy speaks to me about giving back. Olamide and Don Jazzy are my idols for the way they make stars, and Mr. Eazi’s innovation is always inspiring. Internationally, artists like Drake, Chris Brown, Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Russ influence my style and work ethic.
Discography:
My discography is growing, starting with “2:00am,” my breakout single, followed by an EP that includes an acoustic version of the track. “Kpa (Money)” and “Selena” were my next releases, and I’ve been lucky to collaborate with other rising artists like Maczyfire, Boyhanzy, and Lord UI. Each release represents a step forward in my musical journey.
Upcoming Projects:
Exciting times are ahead! My next project, Amazing, is set to drop later this month, and I can’t wait to share it with the world.
