In a momentous announcement on June 13, 2023, The Academy revealed the inclusion of three fresh categories for the forthcoming 2024 edition. The newly added categories comprise Best African Music Performance, Best Alternative Jazz Album, and Best Pop Dance Recording, further enriching the diverse tapestry of Grammy recognition. The inclusion of the Best African Music Performance category brings forth promising prospects for African artists, particularly those in the Afrobeats genre, whose infectious melodies have propelled the continent’s music scene onto the global stage. Previously, Nigerian and African superstars vied for the Best Global Music Performance category, where luminaries such as Wizkid, Burna Boy, Femi Kuti, and Angelique Kidjo garnered nominations for their outstanding contributions.
